The University awarded a contract for the Jump Simulation and Education Center.
Services of the Jump Simulation and Education Center at OSF Healthcare. The Brachytherapy Trainer Validation Studies to be conducted at Jump Simulation, collaborative partner with the University system, located at OSF Healthcare.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Donation to UICOMP which will allow work with our collaborative partner, Jump Simulation, for the purposes of utilizing UICOMP faculty, residents, students to conduct: Research related to Brachytherapy which is a well-established intervention for a variety of cancers that has marked advantages to more traditional radiation therapies. In some forms, surgical skills are required to facilitate the placement of radiation dosing guides. Current training methods for these skills are lacking, causing a gap in patient care as radiation oncologists are incapable of performing the necessary techniques. This project seeks to build on previous work by OSF Innovation Engineering to create a suite of surgical trainers to fill the aforementioned gap.
