The University awarded a contract for a RapidPick Multi-Pin Lite Workcell.
The RapidPick Multi-Pin Lite Colony Picking Workcell will be used in the Institute for Tuberculosis Research. This instrument is highly specialized and designed to unite a few processes that are uniquely tailored to our laboratory. This instrument has the capacity to use robotic assembly to pick thousands of bacterial colonies in one hour, and automate their plating and preservation onto additional plates.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) There is no instrumentation on campus that can fill our specific need. This instrument is highly specialized and designed to unite a few processes that are uniquely tailored to our laboratory. This instrument has the capacity to use robotic assembly to pick thousands of bacterial colonies in one hour, and automate their plating and preservation onto additional plates. The instrument is uniquely suited for our custom, in-house designed bioassay plates.
