The University awarded a contract for a 3D printer.
This 3D-bioprinter will be used to innovate and develop novel biomaterials and scaffold design strategies in the field of biofabrication and tissue regeneration.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The Bioengineering Lab is a Tissue Engineering and Additive Manufacturing lab. The RegenHU 3D-bioprinter will allow us to continue to innovate and develop novel biomaterials and scaffold design strategies in the field of biofabrication and tissue regeneration. This 3D printer will be used to print scaffolds or continuous strands of medium to high viscous materials. Build 3D structures from thermoplastics with melting point up to 250°C, Print continuous strands of medium to high viscous materials and Generate micro- and nano-fibers by Melt Electrowriting.
