The University awarded a contract for a laser system.
Phocus HE Mobile Tunable Laser System. This laser will be used to build our 3D photoacoustic imaging system.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The laser system is needed to build our 3D photoacoustic imaging system. We require a powerful laser that is portable, very stable and also highly tunable. In addition, this is the only laser with fast tuning capability. Based on the Ring-Cavity optical parametric oscilaltor (OPO) technology, the Phocus MOBILE represents the ideal light source for photoacoustic imaging applications that require high pulse energies and NIR wavelengths for deep penetration of biological tissue. High damage thresholds combined with minimal maintenance and turn-key operation reduce system down-time and allow ease of operation. The system provides a light-sealed, transportable cart designed for deployment into pre-clinical environments. A customizable, safety-interlocked fiber bundle delivers light from the system to the instrumentation and prevents system operation without fiber attachment. Motorized harmonics and fiber bundle delivery provide a completely, hands-free system tunable laser system.
