The University awarded a contract for spinal cord stimulators and drug pumps.
These surgical implants are spinal cord stimulators and drug pumps that help alleviate chronic pain.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) These surgical implants are used to alleviate chronic pain in patients at the University of Illinois Hospital. The surgeons at the Hospital use these surgical implants to provide the best possible pain relief. Without access to these implants, the Hospital would not be able to provide this procedure and patients will go elsewhere, resulting in a loss of revenue.
