The University awarded a contract for the Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network.
The Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network is a certified, federally qualified Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) which provides a single, coordinated organ and tissue recovery program to support all transplants in the region. As a federal qualified Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) the vendor will provide distribution of organs according to established protocols; central histocompatibility laboratory services to provide donor matching tests; patient/donor educational programs; notification of organ availability; assistance in securing appropriate transportation of donor organs and other related services.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) These organs are essential for the UI Health transplant program and the well-being of our patients.
