The University awarded a contract for a subscription service license.
Annual Subscription Service license for the cloud-based Echo360 Learning Capture Solution. The data usage will allow UIC to be able to gauge the growth needed as more courses are using this platform to record lectures and more students are streaming video content created during classes.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for periodicals, books, subscriptions, database licenses, and other publications procured for use by a university library or academic department, except for expenditures related to procuring textbooks for student use or materials for resale or rental. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(5)) This video recording and streaming system makes it possible for faculty to provide access to course content 24/7 anytime during the year. Students benefit from the flexibility allowed by consuming content from any device at any time from anywhere; students can review lectures for clarification of concepts while annotating the videos as they are playing back the content, and participate in polls from within the class or outside of the class; they can also access missing content when they cannot be in the classroom. This system supports the different learning preferences and needs of the diverse UIC student body.
