The University awarded a contract for whole cell patch clamp electrophysiology setup.
The setup from Scientifica provides the instrumentation necessary for whole cell patch clamp electrophysiology recordings and the option of upgrading to 2 photon microscopy. These techniques are critical to understanding the role of inner retinal remodeling in models of inherited eye diseases.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Scientifica specializes in providing cutting-edge equipment optimized for electrophysiology, multiphoton imaging and optogenetics research. This empowers researchers to overcome experimental hurdles and achieve breakthroughs in neuroscience. The world-class laboratory equipment allows researchers to gain a better understanding of the nervous system and neurological diseases. This system in particular is necessary for the researcher to asses inherited eye diseases.
