The University awarded a contract for a Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer.
SMPS is a nanoparticle sizer that measures the size and number concentration of aerosol particles with accuracy and precision. The SMPS provides the size and concentration information in 128 channels per decade using electrical mobility sizing and single particle counting.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This instrument is critical for several of the faculty members and their projects at Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences (EOHS). This is a fundamental instrument for research and teaching at the EOHS. With the presence of this advanced instrument, the chance to get our research proposal funded will substantially increase.
