The University awarded a contract for Lab Isolation of Islet Cells for Transplantation.
CellTrans working in coordination with UI Health expands access Islet Cell Transplantation for patients at UI Health in need of a pancreas. The processing fee for cell isolation is paid to CellTrans and included in the reimbursement process when filing claims post-transplantation.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) CellTrans is a laboratory that isolates Islet Cells for transplantation. As a new medical service, there are no comparable vendors for consideration.
