The University awarded a contract for a Flow Cytometer.
The BD Symphony A1 4 Laser 16 color Flow Cytometer is an important analysis method for biomedical application. The department of Biomedical Sciences at Rockford campus includes, immunology lab, vaccine development, cancer research, regenerative medicine and disability research, nano medicine laboratory and the 3D bioprinting lab. All of these laboratories depend on flow cytometery for data collection and analysis.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Flow Cytometery is one such characterization method which will help us perform necessary research in these areas.
