The University awarded a contract for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners.
Specially trained nurses that are able to reduce re-traumatization of patients and improve the quality of forensic evidence collection, which in turn increases prosecution rates of offenders. They are crucial in ensuring that sexual assault patients receive more compassionate care.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The hospital will meet the law requirement to provide 24/7 coverage for SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) as required by new State law, effective 01/01/2023.
