Project Description
The University of Illinois and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering have received a gift from the Ford Motor Company to construct and equip the Automotive Science and Technology Laboratory. This $1.25 million project will provide the final phase of remodeling and modernization of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department's Automotive Systems Laboratory in the Mechanical Engineering Building. Five thousand square feet of laboratory space dating from 1950 will be enhanced to provide modern research, instructional, and student project facilities. New space will include instructional and research laboratories for automotive systems equipped with the latest emissions and test equipment, with access to state-of-the-art laser diagnostic instrumentation; a laboratory for fuel spray research; a student project oriented space for vehicle design, fabrication and testing; and research support areas such as a small chemical fume hood lab.
