The Board of Trustees of U of Illinois Facilities Planning and Programs hereby requests sealed bids for construction work on the former RR embankment removal and mass grading Phase I - Chicago project.

Project Description
The former RR embankment will be demolished between Morgan Street and Halsted Street to the south of 14th Place. The embankment length is approximately 1200 ft., constructed with concrete retaining walls and fill material. The five embankment viaducts crossing over streets will be removed. Only the Halsted Street viaduct demolition will be phased to allow one-way traffic flow during demolition. Recycling of concrete and steel, including rails, is encouraged.

Bids will be received up to the hour of 2:00 PM local time, on Wednesday, April 26, 2000. Immediately after closing time for receiving bids, they will be opened publicly and read.

A pre-bid conference will be held at the South Campus Development Office, 1524 South Peoria, 6th Floor - UIC Warehouse I - Chicago, Illinois 60608, at 12:30 P.M. prevailing time on Thursday, April 13, 2000. Representatives of the owner and the architect/engineer will be present to answer questions regarding the project and bidding procedures. All prospective bidders are urged to attend.
