506 South Wright Street
Urbana, IL 61801-3684
Project Description
The project consists of performing a "Critical Examination" of the entire facades of all or selected buildings at the University of Illinois at Chicago campus and preparing a comprehensive report describing the condition of exterior walls and enclosures of each building.
The primary objective of this activity will be to assess the existing conditions at each building so that imminently dangerous and hazardous conditions can be stabilized. It will be the responsibility of the selected structural engineer/architect to inform the University of any potential hazard, provide appropriate remedy, and work with the University to complete the repairs. The secondary objective of this inspection/investigation will be to establish the scope of required repairs as well as the development of an estimate of probable cost for rehabilitation.
The critical examination program shall include 100% hands-on inspection of all exterior facades and forensic investigations of underlying support and back-up conditions. In addition, the selected firm shall be responsible for the hiring of all access to and/or scaffolding/lift devices as required for the critical examination of each building. The selected firm will be required to submit 6 signed and sealed copies of the report to the University that will include all necessary information as would be required for conformance to City of Chicago Ordinance.
