Project Description
This project will consist of replacing all of the existing Victaulic gaskets and couplings on the heating water piping serving the Health and Sciences Building (HSB). The existing gaskets have been
occasionally leaking, particularly when large changes in temperature occur. The existing gaskets and
couplings will be replaced with a newer style Victaulic gasket and coupling that are rated for a higher temperatures. This will require removal of the insulation, the existing coupling, and the gasket, and installation of a new gasket and coupling, and re-insulation. The general work required to access the fittings includes but is not limited to lay in ceiling removal and reinstallation, installation of access panels in hard ceilings, and removal and reinstallation of a chase wall. The contractor will be responsible for draining, temporarily storing, and refilling the system with the existing 30% propylene glycol solution as required to complete the work. The work must be scheduled to minimize disruption to the summer classes. The contractor will be responsible for verifying each of the existing grooved pipes is within the tolerance required for use with Victaulic fittings. The pipe ends that are found to be out of compliance shall be cut out and turned over to the engineer for verification. They shall be replaced with an additional Victaulic coupling and spool piece on a unit price basis.
