Project Description
Location of all work is limited to the original 1924 building and the 1926 and 1927 additions. Masonry repairs, grinding and pointing, and cleaning at brick field and stone lintels, window surrounds, belt courses, and cornice at all facades and the courtyards. Repair to lead coated copper window hoods, flashing, and other elements. Replacement of all wood and steel windows (except 23 large scale steel windows set with art glass panels) with aluminum clad wood windows. Replacement of all wood cornice profiles at the dormers with extruded aluminum profiles. Refurbishment of exterior light sconces and replacement of surface mounted exterior fixtures. Replacement of east, north and south side entry doors with new aluminum doors and transoms. Chimney reinforcement for seismic stability: installation of steel trusses the chimney interior and associated masonry patching. Window mock up: the disassembly of one round steel top window at the Reading Room and the installation of one aluminum replacement window at that opening.
