Project Description
The project includes renovation of a single elevator as part of the second phase of elevator modernizations at Sherman Hall, providing a new ADA accessible elevator cab (by eliminating the rear doors at the basement level). The elevator to be altered in Phase II is a 6-stop hydraulic elevator, and the project will include, but is not limited to, the hydraulic pumping unit, direct acting jack assembly, car enclosure, hoistway entrances, guide rails, signals, controls, electric wiring, buffers, devices for operation, dispatching, safety, security, leveling and alarm; the existing hydraulic jack will remain. Electrical service, mechanical, and fire protection work will be required. The existing masonry hoistway will be extended vertically to provide new sidewall venting and a hoistway picking beam, and will include the removal and reinstallation of the existing concrete roof, new masonry, EPDM roofing, associated flashings, and new mechanical weatherproof louvers. The first floor will require the construction of a new fire-separation wall and fire door to create a lobby between the elevator and stairway. A new fire-rated elevator equipment room will be constructed to house the new elevator machinery. This Project is located at: Sherman Hall, 909 South Fifth Street, Champaign, Illinois 61820.
