Project Description
This project will consist of the preparation of a master plan for the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) campus. Using the existing master plan as a point of reference, the consultant will execute a work program that will include: visioning and description of academic program concepts; program verification; analysis of existing conditions; analysis of projected future conditions; development and evaluation of alternative solution strategies; refinement of a preferred alternative concept plan; and the development of a final master plan and campus design guidelines. Deliverable products will include meeting summaries, intermediate work products, a final plan presentation, computer-generated master plan and design guidelines, and a final report including text and graphics in electronic form suitable for publication via both print and electronic media.

In addition to becoming familiar with the current UIC campus master plan and academic program, the consultant will be required to review and develop plan concepts that are responsive to the concerns identified in the report of the UIC 2010 Strategic Thinking Committee. This report identifies physical and programmatic challenges and opportunities that must be addressed in the new campus master plan.

The consultant will also be required to engage and collaborate with faculty and students in professional degree program studios and workshops organized by the College of Architecture and the Arts and the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs. These workshops will be designed to identify emergent issues and provide opportunities to explore both mainstream and radical solutions. It is anticipated that this collaborative approach will heighten faculty and student interest in the substance of the master plan and contribute to the development of a constituency to ensure that the proposed concepts are brought to fruition through anticipated fund-raising and careful project-level planning. Ultimately, the consultant will be responsible for developing all deliverable products.
