Science and Engineering Offices Building - Feasibility Study - Façade, Auditorium and Faculty/Staff Lounge University of Illinois at Chicago

Description of Project
The College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is seeking programmatic planning and conceptual design and cost estimating services for building façade alterations, including new entrance canopy and building naming opportunities, as well as the enclosure of the old service area at grade to provide a new auditorium and faculty/staff lounge at the Science and Engineering Offices Building (SEO). SEO is located on Morgan Street, just North of Taylor Street and is a 13 story office building.

Scope of Work: Project orientation and area specific programming, first floor planning related to the enclosure of current outdoor space for an auditorium and lounge including MEP engineering, alternative elevation studies, and concept level cost estimating. Marketing materials including building rendering(s) and presentation quality floor plans will also be required.

The initial commission will be limited to the preparation of the feasibility study. Upon approval of the Project by the Board of Trustees, the retained architect would be considered for completion of the balance of the project.

Professional Services Consultant Submittal
Firms should submit four copies of the following: a letter of interest, a copy of its CDB prequalification letter, and a 255 form (section 8 should be modified to include additional information of relevant projects) and a copy of your current CDB prequalification applications. This form can be found on the CDB website at http://www.cdb.state.il.us/formspublications.shtml and once completed, shall be submitted to the address noted below. The deadline for receipt of submittals is 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2005.

Minimum Qualifications
Only those firms which meet the following qualifications will be considered for selection:

  • Licensed to practice as an architect, engineer, or landscape architect in the State of Illinois
  • Prequalified with the State of Illinois Capital Development Board
  • Registered and authorized to do business in the State of Illinois
  • Utilization of AutoCAD compatible system
The following project-related criteria will be used to evaluate the firms requesting consideration for selection:
  • Architect/Consultant experience in the preparation of conceptual design and planning studies for similar buildings/projects.
  • Quality and specific relevant experience of key staff assigned, including consultants
  • Proficiency in cost estimating.
  • Commitment of principal or partner's involvement in project.
  • Appropriate staff size and disciplines.
  • Prior performance of the firm, assigned staff and consultants for UI
  • Current commitments of proposed staff and firm.
  • MAFBE Status of architect/engineer and any consultants.
