Project Description
The University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System (UIHHSS) is in the process of making significant improvements to the main Hospital Building. Located at 1740 West Taylor Street in Chicago, this building is a 495-bed facility that consists of eight (8) stories, plus basement Concourse Level and 9th-11th floor mechanical penthouses. As the consequence of a Master Planning Study which identified various strategies to meet current and anticipated needs for a 10-20 year horizon, the Hospital embarken on a series of infrastructure upgrades and renovation projects. Phase 1 of this effort is now nearing completion and Phase 2 projects are now being undertaken. This New Lobby Project is envisioned as a 2-story infill addition to be constructed in the existing southwest plaza area. The New Lobby is anticipated to provide improved access, way-finding and security for visitors entering from the 2nd floor bridge connection to the Outpatient Care Center (OCC), reduce congestion at the existing main entrance, reduce traffic on the existing visitor elevators, provide improved front door amenities for visitors and overflow dining space. The existing Lobby will be reconfigured to accommodate the connection to the adjacent New Lobby and to provide additional toilet and retail space.
