Project Description The English Building is a 103-year-old academic and administrative building; a design of the prestigious firm of McKim, Mead and White. It has been in continuous use since the building's dedication with additions added in 1911 and 1923. The building is a highly used student classroom building, having served multitude of Colleges and Departments. Initially known as the Women's Building, it contained women's housing, a gymnasium, and pool as well as classrooms. It later became the home of the Home Economics Department and in the late 1950's was occupied by the English Department and was renamed the English Building. The building holds a prominent position in the history, context and mission of the University.
This project will include professional design services and construction phase services for work on the exterior envelope, interior finishes, life-safety systems and repairs to the electrical system.
