Project Description The Medical Sciences Building is an existing 114,784 GSF, five story, masonry building constructed in 1975. It has been in continuous use as an academic and research facility since that time. The aging of the mechanical systems over the past 25-30 years has resulted in reduced effectiveness of the HVAC systems, creating a severe negative air pressure in the building. This negative air pressure has resulted in deterioration of the building's exterior envelope by the infiltration of moisture into the masonry wall assemblies and casement windows.
The objectives of this project will be to provide professional services to assess the operation and performance of the current air-handling system and to determine the source of the negative air pressure and subsequently, the source of the moisture infiltration and damage. Professional services will then include the design and remediation of the condition to restore the integrity of the ventilation system. It is anticipated that the project would involve new air handling equipment and ductwork including the installation of new energy conservation equipment and ventilation equipment and any envelope repair that is identified as needing immediate attention.
The project shall also provide a comprehensive report including a detailed scope and budget for any additional corrective work for ventilation systems and building envelope that is not completed through this project.
