Project Description
The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign is seeking a Professional Services Consultant (PSC) for the Mechanical Engineering Building Renovation and Addition project. The Mechanical Engineering Building was constructed in 1949 and contains classroom, laboratory, and administrative spaces for the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MechSE).

The existing south wing of the building is in need of a major renovation to address multiple deficiencies and programmatic upgrades. This project will begin with a Conceptualization Phase to determine the character and cost for the comprehensive upgrade to the existing 66,766 GSF south wing, including an analysis of the architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, environmental, and learning technology systems. Code compliance, life safety, accessibility, life cycle analysis, and sustainability will be integral to this analysis. The Conceptualization Phase will also examine building addition options. Preliminary programming and conceptual designs will be developed to determine the size, character, and cost of building addition options. The analysis for the renovation and building addition options will consider the ultimate design intent of attaining a minimum of LEED Gold building certification for New Construction and Major Renovations.
