The University awarded a contract for Research Park RIPE Greenhouse.
This project will design and construct a state-of-the-art greenhouse dedicated to the Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency (RIPE) project and will serve primarily as a high-throughput phenotyping (HTP) facility. This facility will provide well controlled environmental conditions that will minimize the replications needed for the research. In addition, there is space for other RIPE research-related greenhouse activities including growing transgenic plants for phenotyping and field trials.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for events or activities for which the use of specific potential contractors is mandated or identified by the sponsor of the event or activity, provided that the sponsor is providing a majority of the funding for the event or activity. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(3)) The project is fully funded by a private donor and will utilize a design-builder.
