The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois is seeking a construction manager on the Mechanical Engineering Building (MEB) ? Renovation & Addition project. The MEB - Renovation & Addition will provide to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the necessary upgrades identified in a Conceptualization Report prepared by Harley Ellis Devereaux. Mechanical Engineering Building (MEB) built in 1947 is located at 1206 W. Green, Urbana, IL 61801 and will be transformed into a 107,738 gsf 21st century facility that will inspire and empower current and future generations through hands-on, learning-by-doing classroom instruction and a rapidly evolving information technology. MEB will meet educational needs and contemporary teaching standards for undergraduate and graduate level study. The project will deliver a flexible plan that will satisfy the goals and program needs of the College of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MechSE).

The MEB scope of work includes a complete renovation of the existing facility and incorporates a proposed building addition, the Sidney Lu Center for Learning and Innovation, to the southeast corner of the existing building along Matthews Avenue. The proposed 41,654 gsf building addition will include an elevator and an enclosed fire stair to address life safety and accessibility concerns. Also included as part of this work is the core building renovation, which proposes that the existing 66,084 gsf receive selective demolition and be re-imagined and optimized for education, innovation and community. The proposed addition and renovation project will provide new state-of-the-art instructional facilities, offices, and associated support spaces.
