The University
awarded
a contract for
conversion management software
to
IBM Corporation
for
$25,530.
In order to ensure that AISS' current operating software is year 2000 compliant, they need to convert their OS/VS COBOL code to COBOL for MVS. To effect this conversion, they wish to make a sole source procurement of the IBM software CCCA and CICS. The purchase will enhance programmer productivity during the migration process by automatically converting most COBOL syntax and by generating conversion management reports that, in recording the conversion process, provide a historical trace of the migration.
IBM is the only firm capable of providing these conversion aids. The reliability of the process will be increased with the use of the IBM products because all aspects of the conversion process will be handled by their software. IBM is the provider of the currently operating software products OS/VS COBOL and the requested COBOL for MVS. IBM wrote both of these compilers, they have access to their own compiler code internals, and best know the differences between these two compilers. No other vendor of migration software has this kind of access to the internals of our currently operating IBM software and this kind of accountability and compatibility.
