for community data connectivity services.
The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) has a backbone Internet that serves 300 buildings and approximately 45,000 registered hosts. In addition, there are several dozen locations off-campus, where the university owns buildings or leases space that are not contiguous to the campus fiber and copper telecommunications plant. It is not cost-effective for the university to build its own communications infrastructure to these locations. Leased locations change, further complicating the process of obtaining high-speed data connectivity back to campus. CITES seeks a vendor that can provide high-speed data connectivity to locations in the community for the campus in a cost effective manner.
