a contract for
Centrex telephone line services
to
SBC Global Services (SBC/Ameritech)
for
an estimated $7,849,000.
This is a renewal of Centrex telephone line services for the UIUC, UIC, and UIS campuses for two additional annual periods. Research indicates that a single, competitive vendor cannot provide telephone service to all three campuses and therefore cannot offer the volume discounts available under the recommended SBC/Ameritech extension. The original agreement provided for two one-year renewal options. SBC/Ameritech has agreed to decrease line rates by 10% and to decrease user base line commitment if the University exercises renewal of both years at this time. Due to the significant cost savings and lack of potential change in the competitive situation during the time period under consideration, along with a continuing need, availability of funds and price reasonableness, the University is electing to exercise a two-year renewal at this time.
