The University awarded a contract for Solid-state Yb-based femtosecond laser system.
The solid-state Yb-based femtosecond laser system will be part of the development of a photoexcited time-resolved scanning tunneling microscopy (trSTM) for atomic-resolution imaging of nonequilibrium dynamics of quantum materials as part of a privately funded grant.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for events or activities paid for exclusively by revenues generated by the event or activity, gifts, or donations for the event or activity, private grants, or any combination thereof. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(2)) This research project is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, a privately funded grant.
