University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Announcement of a Sole Source Purchase
First published Thursday, October 20, 2011
The University intends to award a contract for Genetically Modified Mice to Taconic Farms, Inc., Germantown, NY, for $114,000.
This purchase is only economically available from a single source because the
Taconic is the only UIUC, Division of Animal Resources approved vendor that generates custom transgenic mice. Once the mice have been generated at Taconic, they can be directly imported into the UIUC facilities without going through costly & time consuming quarantine procedures. The problem with other vendors is that if the mice provided are not clean, we will have to go through an additional procedure to re-derive the mice which will involve considerable additional costs & time.
