The University awarded a contract for Consumables for Sequel II System to Pacific Biosciences of California, Inc, Menlo Park, CA, for an estimated $500,000.
The University has a need to purchase consumables for its Sequel II System DNA sequencing platform. This is needed to aid in the study of the genetic basis of diseases, including cancer. The end result of this will be that the University will be able to conduct research requiring the reading of long pieces of DNA accurately at high output, which will also enable the accurate assembly of genomes and the capture of changes in the genome.
The university, on information and belief, has concluded that only one vendor can meet its need or can meet the need economically. That vendor is Pacific Biosciences of California, Inc. The university has provided detailed justification to support its conclusion as shown on the attached Sole Source Justification Form.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
