The University awarded a contract for visiting architect/lecturer to Kengo Kuma, Tokyo, Japan, for
an estimated $40,800
.
This purchase is only economically available from a single source because the
School of Architecture's Plym Endowment stipulates that we bring in an architect whose achievements, ideas, and communication abilities would enable him/her to make meaningful contributions to architectural education and the academic environment in general. UIUC's Professor Bognar is a leading authority in the work on Japanese Contemporary Architecture. As a result of writing a book on Kengo Kuma, the School has the opportunity to invite and have Mr. Kuma engaged in our graduate program to enhance our teaching mission and academic standing among peer institutions.
