The University awarded a contract for a High Power UltraFast Fiber Laser.
This contract is for a Satsuma HP High Power Fiber Laser. This laser allows building Optical Fiber-Tethered Simultaneous Lifetime-resolved Autofluorences-Multiharmonic (OFT-SLAM) microscopy into a portal imaging system that may impact cancer diagnosis and prognosis.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The equipment item is required to be a compact, ultrafast, fiber laser with tunable repetition rate pulses to generate the light needed to successfully complete the federally-funded research project.
