The purpose of this request for proposal is to enable the University Library to identify and select a vendor (or vendors) to produce high quality digital images of printed (or typescript) journals, newsletters, and books.
During the four-month period (March 1, 2007 to June 30, 2007), the Library will prepare and ship materials to the vendor(s) for the production of digital images. While some materials will be supplied unbound, others will need to be scanned with bindings intact. This information is detailed and supplied for specific collections in the RFP. The vendor(s) will scan all pages as bitonal, grayscale, and/or color images at a resolution of true or interpolated 600 dpi. Halftone illustrations and finely detailed line art should be captured so as to suppress aliasing distortions and moiré patterns. This RFP stipulates the production of JPEG2000s for master/archival images, and bundled PDFs for access derivatives. Vendors will also be asked to provide a separate price option for JPEGs.
The vendor will also produce associated technical metadata as described in this RFP. The vendor will convert the digital images to text files via optical character recognition software and supply the Library with the raw OCR output.
