Comments:
The awards have been issued for ethernet switches to be used as distribution-layer devices for departmental networks throughout the Urbana campus (Request F310). Our current purchasing projections are to acquire approximately $900,000 of equipment from this RFP for campus data network designs. This is expected to include both stand-alone and chassis-based switches and a significant number of media interface modules providing a minimum total of 4,000 ports. It has been the University's experience that rarely does a single product line suffice in terms of both performance and price per port for all applications. To this end, the University has declared more than one RFP winner and entered into more than one arrangement for portions of the stated port count, speed, and performance ranges. The University is choosing to exercise the option year through June 30, 2004
The University award process may be delayed up to thirty days as this award goes through a state approval process.
