Western Illinois University awarded a contract for carpet installation in the estimated amount of $200,000 on Friday, June 28, 2002 . As a result of air sampling, asbestos fibers were found in Thompson Residence Hall. Immediate action was required to ensure the public''s health as well as to minimize disruption of services in the residence hall. The carpet is being used to minimize the amount of material which could become airborne. Asbestos abatement trained installers were required to perform these services. This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which public health or safety was threatened.
