Western Illinois University awarded a contract for environmental consultant in the estimated amount of $50,000 on Thursday, July 4, 2002 . As a result of air sampling, asbestos fibers were found in Thompson Residence Hall. Immediate action was required to ensure the public's health as well as minimize disruption of services in the residence hall. Testing of air quality needs to be done to evaluate whether measures need to be taken in the individual student rooms and hallways and to evaluate the effectiveness of remediation efforts. This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which public health or safety was threatened.
