The University awarded a contract for ZEISS VisuMax Femtosecond Laser.
ZEISS VisuMax Femtosecond Laser for refractive surgery used for the creation of flaps for LASIK surgery, small incision lenticule extraction surgery (SMILE), pockets for intracorneal rings (ICR), and Keratoplasty (KP).
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The purchase of new ZEISS VisuMax Femtosecond Laser will allow the cornea surgeons to perform the newest and safest laser vision correction (LVC) procedures on patients as well as the standard LVC procedures. It will also allow the residents and fellows to be exposed to and trained on this new technology as well. These are cash pay procedures that will bring revenue to the University.
