The University awarded a contract for two Intuitive Surgical robotic systems.
Lease and service agreements for two Intuitive Surgical robotic systems. One (1) Da Vinci Xi system and One (1) Single Port system. The systems are used in robotic surgery or robot-assisted surgery, allowing physicians to perform many complex procedures with minimal incisions, more precision, greater flexibility, and control than is possible with conventional techniques. Robotic surgery is usually associated with minimally invasive surgical procedures performed through tiny incisions. It is also sometimes used during certain traditional open surgical procedures.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Intuitive da Vinci Surgical Robotic System has to do with direct patient care. Without the Intuitive da Vinci Surgical Robotic system the hospital would not offer robotic surgery or robotic-assisted surgery, which would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the hospital.
