The University awarded a contract for Intra-Operative Monitoring Services.
Provision of supplementary Intra-Operative Monitoring (IOM) services which will provide the standard care for the hospital surgery patients. IOM is used to monitor an anesthetized patient's brain and spinal cord function during a surgical procedure.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Intra-Operative Monitoring is a direct patient care service. Without the monitoring during surgical procedures of an anesthetized patient's brain and spinal cord function we will not be able to provide neurological procedures and patients will go elsewhere, resulting in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
