Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

Kreg Therapeutics will provide temporary patient beds for in-house patients during their hospital stay. A hospital bed or hospital cot is a bed specially designed for hospitalized patients or others in need of some form of health care. These beds have special features both for the comfort and well-being of the patient and for the convenience of health care workers. These Kreg beds range from standard to bariatric beds. Some beds can convert themselves from a bed into a chair with a push of a button. This feature is helpful when dealing with patients who are too weak or large to move themselves into position.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Kreg Therapeutics patient beds have to do with direct patient care. Without access to these patient beds, the Hospital would not be able to offer patient care and would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
