The University awarded a contract for a Mobile Health Unit.
This grant requires us to purchase the mobile health unit which will benefit the University by providing healthcare education and services to rural and urban under-served populations, training 70 diverse nursing students through development and implementation of the ENRICH MHC, and expand the number of diverse nursing students completing UICs Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and School Nurse Certificate programs, thereby expanding the diverse nursing workforce.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The University reached out to Farber Specialty Vehicles to inquire about pricing options for the specific needs of this mobile health unit. We included the estimates provided by the vendor in our proposal for this grant. Since receiving the grant we worked with the vendor to ensure that the costs fit in an affordable model for this grant and the grant budget.
