The University awarded a contract for Westlaw research platform subscription and content.
This library subscription provides access to Westlaw and its digital content and publications to walk-in users of the law library, including public patrons and UIC students and faculty in colleges other than the law school.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for periodicals, books, subscriptions, database licenses, and other publications procured for use by a university library or academic department, except for expenditures related to procuring textbooks for student use or materials for resale or rental. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(5)) Thomson Reuters - West is the sole publisher/provider of the Westlaw research platform and its content and publications. Pricing is based upon the content selected and number of concurrent user licenses. The multi-year contract locks in lower annual cost escalation.
