The University awarded a contract for laparoscopic surgical instruments.
The surgical supplies provided by Microline Surgical Incorporated have to do with direct patient care service. Without this type of patient supplies the hospital will not be able to provide this type of procedure and a patient will go else where and intern we will take a loss in revenue.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The negotiations has resulted in an average discounted pricing of 51% off list price. In the University's opinion, this price is a good, competitive price relative to the market and should be accepted.
