The University awarded a contract for disposable items for orthopedic surgical helmets.
The surgical helmet provides personal protection for the surgeon or staff during orthopedic cases. The products provide full coverage from splashes and contaminations that may occur during the surgical cases. A system intended for the purpose of protecting healthcare workers and patients from cross-infection during surgery. It is typically composed of a helmet frame with a face shield, a loose fitting disposable hood or gown draped around this, inflow and exhaust fans and filters, and a power supply, e.g., a battery pack to drive the internal ventilation.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This helps protect healthcare workers and patients from cross-infection during surgery
