The University awarded a contract for a cooking and nutrition program.
Common Threads will provide their cooking and nutrition program, World Cuisine, to all the schools in Austin Community of Chicago, approximately 20 schools.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This helps the university meet its commitment to giving back to the community. Additionally this helps our program meet its project deliverables. Without this contract we simply would not be able to service this neighborhood. We will not be able to keep this project around indefinitely so it is better to outsource it for the short period we are in need of meeting this goal.
