The University awarded a contract for a managed care risk agreement.
This is a managed care risk agreement for which we are financially liable for payment of health care related services provided by external providers. The healthcare related services, under this agreement, for which UIC is financially liable to reimburse include outpatient and physician related healthcare services. Based on historical utilization, the healthcare related services accessed at University of Chicago include mostly emergency encounters, inpatient admits of patients that presented through the emergency room and second medical opinions.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This will provide UIC with a 46% reduction in cost and a higher level of predictability for when our Blue Cross Blue Shield and CampusCare members access care at University of Chicago Medical Center.
