The University awarded a contract for medical waste management services.
Stericycle will provide medical waste management services for the removal of sharps, hazardous waste, pharmaceutical, and regulated medical waste through out the hospital. Their responsibility will be to collect and haul-away sharps, hazardous waste, and pharmaceutical waste off site for proper disposal.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Medical waste removal is critical to maintaining the safety of our medical staff and students.
