The University awarded a contract for the TIGR Matrix Resorbable Surgical Mesh.
The Novus Scientific TIGR Matrix is a macroporous multifilament surgical mesh knitted from two different synthetic resorbable fibers, possessing different degradation characteristics. It is primarily used for breast reconstruction and abdominal wall reinforcement during surgical procedures.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The surgical supplies provided by Novus Scientific have to do with direct patient care. Without this type of surgical mesh, the hospital will not be able to provide this type of procedure and a patient will go else where. which will result in a loss of revenue.
